A Colourful Marquee Wedding at Hall Farm, Norfolk

Ev and Will got married in September 2025 at Hall Farm in Norfolk, with an outdoor ceremony led by a friend and a marquee reception in the field next door. It was a big, warm, colourful day with around 180 guests. Super 8 was used alongside digital throughout the film.

Back to where it started

Ev and Will met at a house party while both studying English Literature at the University of East Anglia in Norwich. Ev made the first move, then spent a good few months pursuing Will before he finally realised what was going on.

They’re Londoners who now live in Amsterdam, but Norfolk is where it all began. Coming back to get married here made sense.

A proposal that nearly didn’t happen

Nearly ten years after that house party, Will proposed at the end of a seven-month backpacking trip around South America. Getting there wasn’t simple.

The ring didn’t arrive before they left, so their friend Nat carried it out to Peru on a visit. In Ecuador, their bags were nearly stolen while Will was out getting breakfast, and Ev fought the thieves off with no idea there was a ring inside. And all the way through the trip, she kept telling Will how glad she was they weren’t thinking about marriage yet.

He pulled it off anyway.

A ceremony led by a friend

Ev and Will had their legal wedding in London a few days before, which left the day at Hall Farm free to be exactly what they wanted.

The ceremony was outdoors and led by a friend, which gave it a warmth and ease that’s hard to get any other way. When the person at the front knows you both, the words feel like they belong to you.

A typical September day

The weather did what September weather does. There were lovely sunny spells through the ceremony and the drinks reception, and then the rain arrived later on.

The timing couldn’t have been better. By the time it came down, everyone was tucked inside the marquee for the wedding breakfast.

Colour everywhere

Ev and Will described their day as a loose clash of cultures, a nod to their mixed heritage set in the English countryside. With an Irish side and an Indian side, there were big families on both, and the whole day had that full, lively feeling of a lot of people who love each other in one place.

What stood out to me most was the colour. In the outfits, the details, the marquee, the people. It was a day that didn’t hold back, and it was a joy to film.

Tender

Music runs right through Ev and Will’s story. They bonded over it at university, and Blur was one of the bands that brought them together.

They chose Tender as their first dance before Glastonbury 2024. Then, at the festival, Damon Albarn came out for a surprise set and played just one Blur song. It was Tender.

You couldn’t plan a better sign than that. Watching them dance to it in the marquee, with all of that behind it, was a lovely moment to be in the room for.

The Film

I filmed the day the way I always do, quietly and in a documentary style, letting it unfold without stepping in. With so many people and so much going on, there was always something happening in every corner.

Super 8 adds a warmer, scrapbook texture alongside the digital footage. It suited a day this full of colour, family and September light.

I take on around twenty weddings a year, so every film gets proper time and care. I film quietly, giving you space to be present, and blend digital with Super 8 for a film that feels timeless and full of character. If you’re planning a wedding at Hall Farm and this way of working feels right, I’d love to hear about your plans.
